Shima Green of Morris Heights told Spectrum News NY1 that she and several other people quickly darted into a Citibank to protect themselves from what police say were multiple gunshots that were fired in broad daylight.

The NYPD says that just before 2 p.m. Saturday, gunfire led to a 2-year-old boy who was on East Fordham Road sustaining a gunshot wound to his hip.

“I just got back from Brazil yesterday, had a good vacation,” Green said. “And I’m back in New York. It’s a sunny day. It’s safer to be out of the country it feels like!”

Police say multiple shell casings were found Saturday in the area of East Fordham Road and Grand Concourse.

The boy was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and is expected to survive.

Mayor Eric Adams visited the crime scene after attending and speaking at the funeral for fallen NYPD officer Jonathan Diller.

“When you're coming from a police funeral where the gun took the life of a young police officer,” Adams said. “And now you're hearing about a shooting like this, it just tells the city why we're committed to taking these illegal guns off the streets.”
