Five bus lines around the city are free to ride now that the MTA has officially launched its new pilot program.

The program is expected to last six months, and the MTA will be looking at how fare-free service affects ridership on each of the routes.

Each borough sees one free busing route come to their part of the city. They are the BX-18 in the Bronx, the M-116 in Manhattan, the Q-4 in Queens, the B-60 in Brooklyn, and the S-46/96 on Staten Island.

State Senator Mike Gianaris, the main sponsor of the legislation, joined the “Mornings on 1” team Monday to explain his reasoning behind backing the bill.
