Thousands of United Auto Workers members walked off the job on Friday after failed negotiations with American automakers.
This is the first time union members are on strike against all three U.S. automakers at the same time.
This comes as Hollywood writers and actors remain on strike.
NY1 anchor Stephanie Simon spoke with Cornell labor professor Alexander Colvin on Saturday to break down the shift in the labor movement.
"This summer, unions are realizing they have labor market power right now," Colvin said. "Unemployment is really low, so they are able to push more for things they want for their members. So we are seeing some of that. But there is also a technological shift going on."
