For about a year, the Brooklyn Public Library has been on a mission to help readers in other parts of the country who are facing restrictions on some books and materials.
The library's Books Unbanned program issues free library cards for the library's digital and audio collections to teenagers all across the country. The program provides access to materials that are banned in other parts of the U.S.
Typically these books are by or about lesbians, gay men, transgender people or Black people.
So far, more than 6,000 teenagers have requested cards through this program.
Linda Johnson, the CEO of the Brooklyn Public Library, joined Rocco Vertuccio and Shannan Ferry Sunday morning on NY1 to discuss the program.
