City leaders say they're putting more than $12 million into renovations and new equipment at Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island.

According to officials, the money will help the hospital modernize its CAT Scan and Radiology Department.

It will also renovate a 30-bed inpatient psychiatric unit, improve security and access to its main entrance.

Officials say the funds will help buy vital equipment like MRI and PET scan machines and X-ray and ultrasound equipment.

Approximately $600,000 will also go toward providing cancer screenings and early intervention and prevention programs.
