Five people were shot after gunfire broke out along the West Indian American Day Parade route in Brooklyn Monday afternoon, police said.

Authorities said the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. when a man in his 20s wearing a brown shirt and a black bandana leaped onto the street divider at 301 Eastern Parkway and fired his weapon multiple times into a crowd of people.

Four men and one woman were struck by the gunfire, police said.

Two of the gunshot victims are in critical condition, authorities said at a press conference Monday.

“This was an intentional act by one person towards a group of people,” NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said.

Chell said there was “by no means” an active shooter in the area, though it was not immediately clear whether an arrest had been made.

Authorities said the parade will carry on until its regularly scheduled time of completion at 6 p.m.

Police urge those in attendance who may have captured video evidence of the incident on their phones to call 1-800-577-TIPS.

“We need that video,” Chell said. “We are going to solve this, but it’s going to take a lot of work.”
