Bryant Park Winter Village

While there are many Halloween-themed events to celebrate Halloweekend in the city, Bryant Park's Winter Village is also now open for the season.

The annual holiday staple in the city features a variety of local shops, a rink for ice skating and an indoor lodge with food and drink options.

Brooklyn Children's Museum Halloween

  • Oct. 27 from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Kids and their parents are invited to put on their costumes and trick-or-treat around the Brooklyn Children's Museum's exhibits Sunday.

There will also be artmaking workshops, professional cosplayers, and the chance to meet animals and insects. Families can attend one of three 2.5-hour sessions.

Great PUPkin Costume Contest

  • Oct. 26 from noon to 1:30 p.m.
  • Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn
  • Free and open to the public

Head to Fort Greene Park Saturday to see dozens of dogs dressed in costumes competing for the rosettes given to top pups.

The contest has been an annual Halloween staple in Fort Greene since 1998 and is run by Fort Greene Pups, a nonprofit organization.

Queens Night Market

  • Oct. 26 from Sept. 14 from 4 p.m. to midnight

Saturday marks the last weekend of the year for Queens' open-air night market, which features dozens of independent vendors selling merchandise, art and food, as well as cultural performances. The event aims to celebrate the rich cultural diversity and heritage of NYC and Queens.

The Subway Is...

Celebrate the 120th birthday of the New York City subway on Sunday. The system opened on Oct. 27, 1904 and continues to move millions of people each day.

A new exhibit at the New York Transit Museum uses vintage pictures, objects, models and even advertisements to tell the story of the subway and explore the different ways of completing the sentence, "The subway is..."

Boo at the Zoo

The Bronx Zoo's annual celebration of spooky season is back. The zoo encourages people to come dressed in their Halloween costumes for a variety of holiday-related activities, including pumpkin carving, face painting and Halloween crafts.

Queens County Farm 'Amazing Maize Maze'

Queens County Farm is set up for the fall season. New Yorkers can find their perfect pumpkin in the patch and check out the farm's "Amazing Maize Maze." Those up to the task will have to find clues as they attempt to navigate themselves out of a three-acre labyrinth.

Halloween Harvest at Luna Park

Coney Island's Luna Park is set up for the Halloween season. Activities at the theme park include trick-or-treating, tractor racing, pumpkin decorating and a pumpkin patch.

There are also seasonal treats, including pumpkin-spiced funnel cakes.

Stone Street Oktoberfest

German beer, served in traditional German glassware, is the main attraction at what organizers say is one of the largest Oktoberfest celebrations in the city. Food options include pretzels and wursts, of course, but also international offerings like Mexican, Cuban, and American food.

The event also includes live polkahaus music, giant versions of games like Connect Four and Jenga, stein-holding contests, and staff dressed in traditional dirndls and lederhosen.

The Rink at Rockefeller Center

Ice skating is open for the season at The Rink at Rockefeller Center. The center's website calls it one of the city's "quintessential winter activities."
