Two new residents are making a splash at the New York Aquarium in Brooklyn.

The aquarium in Coney Island on Thursday announced the arrival of two rescued southern sea otters, who have made their debut at the Sea Cliffs exhibit.

The female otters, named Pumpkin and Clover, were rescued as pups off the coast of California and were “deemed non-releasable,” the Wildlife Conservation Society, which runs the aquarium, said.

They now join a long history of rescued otters at the aquarium, which has served as a home to 11 sea otters since 1991, according to the organization.

Southern sea otters, also known as California sea otters, are native to the coast of California and are listed as a threatened species under the U.S. Endangered Species Act, the organization said.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service estimates that only 3,000 sea otters are still living in the wild, it added.
