MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans will keep their nest at Pelicans Ballpark for the 2025 season.
The Myrtle Beach city council approved a one year extension of the club's lease Tuesday evening. The Pelicans' original lease expired in 2018. Since then, it has been renewed on an annual basis.
While Tuesday's vote keeps the team in town, it does not address the issues of an aging stadium.
According to the city council records, multiple parties are coming together this year to develop a comprehensive plan for the future of the ballpark.
Major league Baseball announced minimum standards years ago that Pelicans Ballpark has yet to meet. Under the agreement, current maintenance will remain the same as the city of Myrtle Beach is the majority owner of the stadium at 70% and Horry County owns the other 30%.
