Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado on Tuesday was endorsed by the Uniformed Firefighters Association of Greater New York as he seeks a full term this year.
It is the latest labor union endorsement for Delgado, who is running in a three-candidate field for the Democratic nomination this month. Early voting began this past weekend and primary day is June 28.
“New York firefighters are the frontline heroes who run into the fire. They have our back and it’s our responsibility to always have theirs,” Delgado said. "They put their lives on the line every day to protect New Yorkers – never wavering under the weight of their responsibility to the communities they serve."
Primary opponent Ana Maria Archila, meanwhile, was endorsed by Mijente, a progressive political organization, her campaign announced.
“Ana Maria’s campaign will deliver for the people of New York,” said Mijente’s Executive Director Marisa Franco. “Latinos across the state need a champion who will fight for them on the issues that matter most: healthcare, immigration, and climate justice. Our gente are tired of being excluded from the social safety net that is built off the backs of our labor. That’s why we’re all in for Ana Maria.”
Archila is the preferred running mate of New York City Public Advocate Jumaane Williams.
Archila and Delgado face former New York Councilwoman Diana Reyna, who is running with gubernatorial candidate Rep. Tom Suozzi, in the primary.
