The band Greensky Bluegrass has been playing their own brand of Bluegrass and Rock for more than two decades.
Greensky Bluegrass will be playing The Rooftop at Pier 17 for the fourth time on June 14. Banjo player and co-vocalist Michael Bont from the band said it’s a venue they look forward to playing at with its scenic views of the New York City skyline and the harbor, including the Statue of Liberty.
“People come out, see the show. I mean, play great songs. We are blessed to have a few good songwriters in the band, Dave [Bruzza] being one of them, and we play songs people can connect to,” Bont said.

Their show is one of more than 60 now through October at the Rooftop at Pier 17, which is in its sixth season of presenting music of all types at the South Street Seaport.
“New York City is obviously a very diverse city, so we want to program it in a diverse way. There is a favorite genre or niche for every fan,” Craig Manfra, senior director of marketing for The Rooftop at Pier 17, said.
The line-up this summer includes Ice Spice, Dropkick Murphys, Jane’s Addiction, Dashboard Confessional, Trombone Shorty, Mother Mother, Taking Back Sunday and Two Door Cinema Club.
Manfra notes that in addition to the shows, the seaport offers concertgoers a variety of other food and fun options during their visit.
“Enjoy the awesome restaurants on the waterfront by Michelin star chefs. The Tin Building marketplace has endless opportunities and restaurants. Come up to the rooftop [and] enjoy the show. And then post show, keep the fun going at night,” Manfra said.
Hot spots include Kokos at Pearl Alley, a tropical cocktail lounge and The Lawn Club, which features classic lawn games. On the rooftop, the music and views rule, and the guys from Greensky Bluegrass said fans can expect to hear songs from their latest EP The Iceland Sessions with their friend pianist and keyboardist Holly Bowling.
“Yeah you never know. We change it up quite a bit. We’ve just been getting back to some shows after some time off. And we did two shows with Holly so played all those songs again, but yeah you never know what to expect from our set list,” Bruzza, a founding member of the band, said.
