Two people are dead, including a New Jersey police officer, after a wrong-way crash on Staten Island.
Investigators say three off-duty Linden police officers and a Linden resident were in a car driving on the wrong side of the West Shore Expressway early Friday morning when it crashed into a tractor-trailer.
Police officer Frank Viggiano, 28, and 28-year-old Joseph Rodriguez were killed.
Linden Mayor Derek Armstead said the whole town is in mourning.
"I just hope that you all keep us in your prayers and remember that these are some of our brightest police officers. They're young and they're bright, and we are at a tremendous loss without them," Armstead said.
Viggiano was the front passenger, and Rodriguez was in the rear.
Linden police said the two other officers, Pedro Abad and Patrik Kudlac, are out of surgery and remain in critical condition.
