Eight presidential hopefuls faced off in the crucial battleground state of Wisconsin to make the case why they should be the Republican nominee for President of the United States in 2024.

But the only candidate who has actually occupied the Oval Office – Donald J. Trump, the race’s current frontrunner by a long shot – wasn’t on the stage in Milwaukee on Wednesday. The former president instead took part in a wide-ranging, conspiracy-laden interview with Tucker Carlson posted on social media as the debate raged on.

2. Mother dead, two children injured after being attacked with hammer: NYPD

A mother is dead and her two children are critically injured after a man attacked them with a hammer Wednesday afternoon inside a Sunset Park apartment, according to police.

The man hit the 43-year-old mom and her children, ages 3 and 5, after getting into a dispute with the mother, police said. It is unknown at this time what the dispute was about.

3. City calls for use of more state sites for housing migrants

With nearly 3,000 migrants arriving weekly in the five boroughs, the city says they are running out of shelter options.

On Tuesday, city lawyers, in response to state criticism of the city’s migrant response, asked for a series of new sites for approval. The sites included psychiatric centers, armories, the Javits Center and Ward’s Island.
