Freshkills Park celebrated the opening of it's studio and art gallery in New Springville on Sunday. The exhibition is called "The Fantastic Voyage," and it explores how the human body digests different types of foods. The two artists behind the exhibition say it's a fun way to think about the importance of what we eat.
"We as consumers, we actually have agency and we can question. And this is maybe one way we can get people to start to question you know how are foods grown. How our animals are treated," said Artist Stefani Bardin.
Park officials are looking to add a community garden on site to grow healthy foods for the exhibit by the end of March. The park is still being built at the former site of the fresh kills landfill, and is scheduled to be opened up in phases, through 2036.
