Amazon is trying to finalize plans to open its second headquarters in two locations, including Long Island City, sources told NY1 on Monday night.
Sources close to negotiations cautioned that the deal was not complete.
The New York Times reports Amazon is looking to also open a location in the Crystal City area of Arlington, Virginia, a suburb of Washington.
This comes after a year-long nationwide search by the company for a second home, dubbed HQ2, outside its base in Seattle, which has drawn bids throughout New York. The company had been accepting proposals for its new facility, which is expected to cost around $5 billion.
Amazon executives reportedly met with Gov. Andrew Cuomo two weeks ago.
A source close to negotiations told NY1 that Cuomo is willing to go to Seattle next week to try to close the deal. Cuomo has said that he expects an Amazon HQ in New York City would be an economic boon.
The online retailer expects as many as 50,000 employees would work at its second headquarters.
