Once a right fielder for the Mets, Darryl Strawberry returned to the World's Borough on Monday to discuss his personal experience with addiction.
The four time World Series champion talked with both medical professionals and recovering addicts during his visit to Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks.
Strawberry is now 14 years sober but said he struggled with drug, alcohol and sex addiction.
His message to others is all about hope.
"Recovery is possible. Recovery is real. Recovery is healthy. Recovery is new way of life,” said Strawberry.
Strawberry’s battle with addiction is also detailed in a new book called “Don’t Give Up on Me.”
