A new organization in the Rockaways is leading the charge to bring changes to a special community.
Trishia Bermudez, founder and CEO of Perfect Piece of the Puzzle lead a community workshop for families with special-needs children.
Parents and guardians met at Assemblywoman Stacey Pheffer Amato's office for the workshop.
They discussed the lack of resources for their children on the peninsula, specifically in the areas of recreation and transportation.
"I wanted to create something for others like me and I wanted to do that in Rockaway because that is where most of my frustration came from, because all the services I was receiving weren't in Rockaway and I figured I can't be the only person in Rockaway with a special needs child," said Bermudez.
Bermudez started the organization after her son, Matthew, was born with a rare chromosome deletion.
