UTICA, N.Y. -- State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli paid a visit to Utica to discuss his analysis of the impact that the 4.4 million immigrants that call New York state home.
In a report, DiNapoli found that most immigrants live in New York City, but many also live in Upstate New York, with Utica leading the way with an immigrant population at over 18 percent.
The report also says nearly half of immigrants across the state come from Latin America.
Immigrants in the Mohawk Valley are mostly made up of Europeans, with a number of them being refugees.
DiNapoli says the large number of immigrants have helped revitalize the area.
New York state has the second highest immigration population in the country behind California, which has more than ten million immigrants.
