City University of New York (CUNY) schools in Queens and across the five boroughs are getting a financial boost from the City.
Queensborough Community College and Queens College are two schools in Queens that will get a share of almost $51 million in capital funding. It is money the city council approved in the new city budget.
The money will help pay for 34 CUNY capital projects across the city. That includes $2 million to build a digital film center at Queens College and $3 million for a cafeteria at Queensborough Community College.
Officials announced the investment at Queensborough Community College on Monday.
“CUNY is developing the next generation of leaders for our wonderful city, and not only the actual instruction that's happening in the classrooms is important, but it's also really important to invest in the infrastructure,” said City Council Speaker Melissa Mark Viverito.
“We have a wonderful campus but the newest building is 32 years old, so the investment in capital improvements is critical,” added Dr. Diane Call, the President of Queensborough Community College.
That city funding is in addition to almost $23 million in matching funds from the state.
