They are considered the Oscars of libraries and three Queens Library branches receive recognition for the great work they do in the community.
The NYC Neighborhood Library Awards gave two Queens branches the top prize of $20,000 each Monday night. The Glen Oaks and Arverne branches took home the honor and money. The Far Rockaway Branch received $10,000
After almost 19,000 New Yorkers wrote in to nominate their favorite library branch, a group of judges including award-winning writers and authors chose the finalists and winners.
The NYC Neighborhood Library Awards are an initiative of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and the Charles H. Revson Foundation.
