Kids in need get help staying warm, thanks to a local coat drive.
Senator Jose Peralta distributed 1700 coats Saturday.
The coats were given to organizations such as the Catholic Charities and other non profits that help keep New Yorkers warm during the winter.
For several months, the Senator's office and local partners have been holding drives to collect the coats.
"We got a lot of people in the Queens Aids Center is that are in need Families, children." said Rev. Patrick Young from the First Baptist Church of East Elmhurst
"They call us every year asking when the coat drive is happening how much are we going to receive this year. So, yeah there's a lot of organizations that depend on it, and we're happy to oblige. It's a matter of making sure people get what they need." said Peralta
Peralta's office originally planned to collect 1500 coats but exceeded their goal.
