More than 100 people gathered in Flushing to raise awareness about domestic violence.
The rain and wind may have kept participants from taking their normal march from the 109th precinct, down Main Street, to the Flushing Library, but it didn't keep supporters of the Korean American Family Service Center at home.
"The weather that we had is very similar to what victims of domestic violence live through. Their life, every day, is rainy and stormy like this," said Korean American Family Service Center Board Chair BJ Sung.
The nonprofit held their 18th Annual Silent March Against Domestic Violence on Friday.
Representatives from dozens of organizations, community members and elected officials attended to show their support.
"In this community, and in many other communities, there is too much silence and shame attached to domestic violence. People have to speak out in support of victims and give them the support that their family and they need," said Judy Kluger, Executive Director of Sanctuary for Families.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
