Residents along a single block in Bayside say they've seen two sinkholes open up along their street in just the last few weeks.
“Our first sinkhole fell in about 3 weeks ago, over there. It was left for about a week and then the city came by and repaired it," Bayside resident Kenny Kendzierski said.
Both sinkholes along 35th Avenue between Bell Boulevard and Corporal Stone Street have since been repaired.
"The city was pretty good about that they came back and fixed that one and they then they had surveyors come out," Kendzierski added.
The second sinkhole was much bigger.
“We didn’t realize it was actually that big until we saw someone in it and it was a grown man and you could tell he was like 6’3, Diana Nunez said of the second sinkhole.
Nunez, however, says there have been several other sinkholes on the block in the last few years.
“First there was one and then another one on their lawn and I think...Maybe three years ago there was one on our lawn,” Nunez recalled.
New York One reached out to the Department of Environmental Protection on Sunday. The agency handles issues like sinkholes but has not returned our phone calls or an email request for information on the situation.
