A new cluster of Legionnaires' Disease has been detected in Washington Heights.
The Health Department says eight people have been diagnosed with the form of pneumonia in the past five days.
One has already been discharged, and no deaths have been reported.
The victims range in age from 40 to 80 years old.
The city is now testing about 20 active cooling towers in the area to try and identify the source of the cluster.
"The important thing that I want to emphasize is, it gives us really an opportunity to reassure New Yorkers that even though there may be a close to an event, that doesn't mean we don't keep looking, right, and that's how we found this so quickly and are taking measures to ensure that we get the message out, and then New Yorkers seek treatment early," said acting Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot.
The Department of Health is holding a community outreach meeting on Monday at 6 p.m. at the Jackie Robinson Center to discuss the cluster.
