In Brooklyn some local groups hosted a town hall meeting on real estate fraud and developer harassment for homeowners in East Flatbush.
Community Board 17, Neighborhood Housing Services of Brooklyn, along with several other groups held the event in response to complaints by homeowners of rapid development, an increase in real estate fraud, and pressure to sell their properties. A panel of experts were on hand to answer questions and help attendees with strategies to protect themselves.
One Community Board 17 member, Trisha Ocona says "there are a lot of people trying to defraud people into selling over their home or getting their home and we want to give you the right instruction and direction in order to keep your home."
Homeowners also had a chance to meet one-on-one with counselors and representatives for assistance with foreclosure, property taxes, liens, and other housing challenges.
