With the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy upon us, the city is reminding people in Brooklyn about the dangers of storm surge.

The city's office of Emergency Management unveiled a permanent reminder of just how high the water got outside the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island building.

The sign highlights the nearly six foot surge that completely destroyed the center's first floor.

The High Water Mark Initiative is a community-based program aimed at increasing flood risk awareness.
