The Second Avenue Subway hits the tracks this weekend after years of construction and decades of planning.
The MTA invited about 3,000 New Yorkers to explore the new 86th Street station Friday night.
The 40,000-square-foot stop has colorful subway cars, high ceilings, and tile work that features contemporary artists.
The Second Avenue stations will be home to the Q train, which will run from 96th Street to Coney Island.
Governor Andrew Cuomo will take an inaugural ride on New Year's Eve, but it won't be open to the public until Sunday at noon.
The train will then run on a limited schedule until 24-hour service starts January 9.
