The City Council passed the Fairness in Apartment Rentals Act (FARE Act) with a veto-proof majority on Wednesday.

The bill shifts the responsibility of broker fees from tenants to whoever hired the broker.

Proponents of the bill say this will make finding an apartment more affordable, while opponents say this will just end up increasing rents on market-rate apartments.

Anna Klenkar, real estate broker and proponent of the FARE Act, joined “The Rush Hour” on Wednesday to discuss the implications of the bill.
