Arturo O’Farrill is arguably the city’s most important Latin jazz musician.

It’s not just because of his talent, fame, or Grammy wins, but because O’Farrill gives back to the community.

He helped create a new culture hub in East Harlem — the place where Latin jazz was born.

The new mixed use building will include affordable and transitional housing, as well as a stage for the performing arts, classrooms, art gallery space and more.

O’Farrill’s Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and his Afro Latin Jazz Alliance will be the artistic anchors of the space.

O’Farrill joined “The Rush Hour” on Thursday to discuss his upcoming free concert for Hispanic Heritage Month and the big project he’s working on.
