One person is dead and six firefighters were injured after a three-alarm apartment fire on the Upper East Side Monday night, according to officials.
The FDNY said the fire started on the fifth and sixth floors of a six-story building on East 82nd Street at around 7:15 p.m.
The fire later extended to the fourth floor.
FDNY officials said six firefighters sustained minor injuries while fighting the blaze.
The civilian who died in the fire was not immediately identified, though fire officials said the person was believed to have been found in a hallway on the fifth floor.
In a statement, the Red Cross said it had registered 15 households, including 23 adults and three cats, for emergency assistance.
Any resident impacted by the fire who was not able to connect with the Red Cross on scene and who needs help with their recovery should call 1-877-RED CROSS (877-733-2767) and select Option 1.
An investigation into the fire is being conducted by fire marshals.
