Around $10 million worth of illegal drugs were seized from an operation in Mott Haven, the Bronx Sunday, according to law enforcement officials.

Roughly 1,300 pounds of cannabis and 200 pounds of mushrooms were among the items seized in the sheriff-led bust. NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda said it’s the biggest bust since the start of “Operation Padlock to Protect,” a citywide campaign.

  • NYC Sheriff Anthony Miranda said it's the biggest bust since the start of “Operation Padlock to Protect," a citywide campaign

  • The bust came in part from a tip in the community after they noticed illegal packaging
  • Miranda says the shop was both packaging and selling unregulated, illegal products, including cannabis, mushrooms and other hallucinogenic products

It was an action-packed morning on Timpson Place as large bags of drugs were being placed onto pallets and then taken away in trucks. Mayor Eric Adams visited the scene overnight, highlighting the scale and size of the bust.

Miranda claims many of the products are in packages designed to target young people.

“There’s a health risk targeting the youth in our community, and the fact that this is an unregulated product can present its own dangers to the people who want to use the product,” Miranda told NY1.

The bust came in part from a tip in the community after they noticed illegal packaging. Some residents said they never realized the magnitude of the operation and feel like it was hiding in plain sight. The building has no signage, and some said they thought it was a social club.

“This is really driven first by community complaints, so we want to make sure that we thank the community for the information that they’re giving to us, and that they continue to give us information of what they’re seeing,” Miranda said.

At least four people have been arrested so far, and the investigation is ongoing.

Sunday’s bust comes on the heels of another large bust inside of a deli on East Tremont Avenue in the Bronx. Police say at least $1 million worth of products were seized during that operation.
