With six weeks to go before the Republican congressional primary on Staten Island, incumbent Dan Donovan is hitting the airwaves, trying to tie himself to the president.
NY1 on Wednesday got an exclusive look at the first TV ad in the race, which is set to start running on cable stations Thursday. Donovan does not reference his opponent in the race, former Congressman Michael Grimm.
"I am working with Donald Trump to deport dangerous illegal aliens, build the wall, and end sanctuary cities," the congressman, who represents Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, says in the ad.
The ad is in line with Donovan's pitch on the campaign trail: that he is an ally to President Trump.
Sources also tell NY1 that Donovan's team is expecting a formal endorsement from former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who is now Trump's attorney.
