Rep. Nydia Velazquez wants the Justice Department to step in after thousands of New York voters were denied access to the polls.
Velazquez sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch on Tuesday.
She's requesting federal monitors be sent to the city to oversee next week’s congressional primary.
The congresswoman says she decided to ask for help after a WNYC report showed more than 120,000 voters were removed from the rolls.
Hispanic voters were affected the most, and the highest concentration of people fell within her district.
Velazquez says she does not trust the city’s Board of Elections to correct their mistakes.
"We are demanding not only that the Department of Justice send monitors to watch the election on primary day, but we are demanding from the Board of Elections that they send a letter, that they use PSA, that they use any kind of advertising to let voters know, those who were reinstated, that, in fact, they are eligible voters and that they could vote on election day," Velazquez said.
Sources tell NY1 the Department of Justice has received the request and is reviewing it.
