Sources tell NY1 that the city's Conflict of Interest Board is conducting an ethics probe of City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito.
The board is examining whether Mark-Viverito accepted free consulting during her bid for speaker in 2013.
At the time, the consulting firm called The Advance Group provided assistance to her campaign free of charge. That included setting up meetings and preparing her for debates.
Now, there's a question about whether the speaker should have paid for those services.
A campaign spokesman says, "Any step taken in running the campaign...including assistance from volunteers, setting up the committee was done relying on campaign advisors and counsel."
