Volunteers handed out hundreds of free turkeys at the Vanderveer Park United Methodist Church in Flatbush, Brooklyn Saturday.
The event marks the 20th year that Democratic Brooklyn State Sen. Kevin Parker has helped organize this event.
The free holiday meals include all the trimmings for families in need. Various other churches and community groups helped out as well.
Parker says the annual turkey giveaway is a big help to the community.
“There’s a lot of food insecurity in our community, particularly as people deal with a gap between their budgets,” Parker said. “The holidays is a time for giving and a time for celebration. We want to make sure that every family has the opportunity to celebrate in a traditional way.”
Spectrum helped sponsor the event. Spectrum is the parent company of Spectrum News and NY1.
