A stretch along Broadway in the Bronx now memorializes the founders of Lloyd's Carrot Cake. It was co-named Betty and Lloyd Adams Way at a ceremony Sunday.

Many customers claim Lloyd's Carrot Cake is the best they have ever tasted. Lloyd Adams opened the location in the Riverdale neighborhood across from Van Cortlandt Park with the help of his wife Betty back in 1986.  

They have passed away, but their children have kept the carrot cake legacy alive.

"There is value with running something that your mom and dad, that they started together," said Lilka Adams, the couple's daughter. "That can really stand the test of time with the right mindset."

The City Council approved the street co-naming for the couple. The Adams family was proud to help others.

"Betty and Lloyd were community activists," Bronx Councilman Eric Dinowitz said. "I knew Betty, she was at every community event. She was so supportive of all of our community initiatives. And that's what our small businesses should be, that's what a community is, we all come together and support one another, including our small business owners."

"The people who have served their community, who have sacrificed for their community, who live for their community and who love their community," Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson added. 

There's a small staff that operates the Bronx location, as well as one in East Harlem. The family business spreads love and cheer with the sweet treat.

For many families, Lloyd's Carrot Cake is about their traditions as well. People line up along the block during the holidays to pick up, one, two, maybe even three cakes.

"I have been coming to this place for many years," customer Frances Zaruski said. "I have gotten cakes here, muffins for parties, for friends."

"My aunt was born and raised in Puerto Limón, Costa Rica. Lloyd Adams was actually born in St. Thomas," Irma Gibb said. "So it's just looking at the way two different cultures, the West Indian and also the Spanish influence, what is now Lloyd's Carrot Cake, which is made from scratch and with love."

This is not only a local sweet treat, but people from around the country also place orders for a taste that can bring a smile to their faces.
