BRONX, N.Y. - Sources tell NY1 the man who was shot to death Thursday at a McDonald's in the Bronx is an associate of the Bonanno crime family.
Investigators say Sylvester Zottola, 71, of the Bronx was apparently waiting for food at the drive-thru located at 1625 Webster Avenue in Claremont when he was attacked just before 5 p.m.
Police found him inside his car with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body.
"When I heard that I just ducked in my car for awhile and I was scared. So I peeked over and saw some guy slumped in his car. I didn't see the perp though because I waited a few minutes. Then I just sped off, sped off in my car," said one witness at the scene.
Published reports say Zottola had been attacked several times over the past year.
The most recent incident came in December when he was stabbed by burglars inside his home.
Zottola's son Salvatore was also shot in July but survived the attack.
