The city's education department is looking into claims that applications for school bus drivers were fraudulently approved.

Published reports say more than 100 applications were given the green light without proper background checks.

According to the Daily News, six drivers were approved despite convictions for offenses like drunk driving and domestic abuse.

The retired detective in charge of screening drivers claims his electronic signature was used without his knowledge to approve candidates.

Eric Reynolds said he discovered the alleged scam last month after education officials stopped sending him applications for review in April.

The Department of Education says it will update its clerical process to make sure this doesn't happen again.
