There's still about eight months to go before the "L" train shuts down for Hurricane Sandy-related repairs, but service changes are already just about underway.

Starting Friday night at 11:30 p.m. through 5 a.m. Monday, service will be suspended between 8th Avenue in Manhattan and Broadway Junction in Brooklyn.

Riders can use the A, F, J and M trains as alternates, along with the M14 bus.

The work will go on for about 15 weekends as crews will start preparing for next year's planned work on the Canarsie Tunnel.

"So that we can install the signaling adjustments whereby the trains can turn back at Bedford Avenue once the closure is up and running, but it is also so that we can provide sort of super maintence to switches, to signals, to track, to escalators, to elevators, to pieces of equipment, to assets that will without question be worked way harder during the closure, and that we cannot afford to fail," said Andy Byford, president of New York City Transit.

A free shuttle bus will replace the L between Broadway Junction and Bedford Av.
