Twenty firefighters were hurt Saturday battling a fire that destroyed a fire marshal's home on Staten Island.
It happened shortly after 7 p.m. at 233-237 Steinway Avenue near Klondike Avenue in Heartland Village.
Flames from the fire spread to three other attached homes.
The FDNY says 250 firefighters responded to the scene.
Four suffered serious but non life threatening injuries.
One suffered a serious fall.
"That injury happened when a stairway collapsed when the firefighters were advancing into the building. It appears to be that he will be alright," said FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard.
Fire officials say the closest fire hydrant was not working and that delayed efforts to get water onto the buildings.
It took crews more than an hour to get the fire under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
