City Harvest is calling on New Yorkers to help families in need.
The non-profit hosted their annual Skip Lunch Fight Hunger campaign. It encourages people to donate money they would spend on lunch to City Harvest. Those funds go to feed children and families in the area.
This year their goal is to raise $1.1 million dollars. That's enough to feed 50,000 children for the entire summer. Organizers say the campaign is vital.
Rebecca Fontes, Director of Business Partnerships for City Harvest says "this campaign is really important because 1 in 5 children in New York City is food insecure and may not know where their next meal is coming from."
This is the 16th year the campaign is being held. So far they have raised in total more than $16 million dollars.
City Harvest is accepting online donations through the end of this month.
