Community members call on a state senator to vote yes to pass a law to help children who are victims of sexual abuse.
Advocates for the Child Victims Act rallied outside of State Senator Simcha Felder's district office Thursday. The law would extend the statute of limitations for childhood sexual abuse to age 28.
It would also provide a one-year window for victims of any age, to bring cases currently banned by statutes of limitation to court. Asher Lovy, a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, says it's imperative the senator hears his constituents before voting.
"I don't see any conscionable way that you could claim to represent your constituency when you’re so actively acting against their best interest. Your constituents include the people who were sexually abused," said Lovy.
NY1 has reached out to the Senator for comment and have yet to receive a response.
