The beleaguered city housing authority will receive $200 million for heating upgrades, the city said Tuesday.
The city said that is nearly double the amount that the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) has received from the government since 2014.
The funds will go toward improvements at 20 complexes that have seen chronic heat and hot water outages.
"That would be great because a lot of times, I live right over here, we have problems with no heat, sometimes without warning we'll have no water especially during the cold winter days. So hopefully that's something that get's fixed," said one NYCHA resident.
At least 45,000 residents are expected to benefit from the repairs.
The work is scheduled expected to take three years and will be completed by 2022.
That is a problem Bronx Borough President Rubén Díaz Jr., who criticized Mayor Bill de Blasio's announcement as "cold comfort" for NYCHA residents. He said the city will have a different mayor by the time the new boilers are installed.
