NEW YORK - Some Manhattan residents want to make one street a true Jimi Hendrix experience.
Neighbors have started a petition to co-name 8th Street between fifth and sixth avenues in the East Village after the guitar legend.
They believe the proposed Jimi Hendrix Way would attract tourists to an area which has radically changed from its Bohemian roots decades ago.
Residents need approval from their local community board, before going to the full City Council.
Hendrix is believed to have lived in a small backyard cottage on the street before opening the famed Electric Lady Studios next door where he recorded some of his last work.
