A fast-moving fire at a Bronx high-rise Saturday morning left two people dead, and the cause is still unknown.

The fire broke out on the 10th floor of an 18-story building on East Tremont Ave. near Dogwood Drive around 1:11 a.m.

That is where police said they John Quinones, 75, unresponsive. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Another man was also found dead in a building hallway, police said. Six other people were hurt, including two firefighters who suffered minor injuries and two people who were critically hurt.

NY1 spoke to several residents who described a harrowing rush to figure out what is going on.

"I heard a lot of noise on the roof, so, as I went towards my kitchen, I started smelling the smoke, and, as a matter of fact, it was in my apartment," resident Kathy Womack recalled. "And I felt the knob and I went outside, and there was a fireman and he told me, 'Everything was alright, just go back inside,' and that's what I did."

"You saw all of the firemen, so many firemen and then you start seeing stretchers come, so you start thinking the worst right off the bat," a building resident said.

Investigators said they do not think the fire is suspicious. The Medical Examiner will determine the exact causes of death.
