You could say a controversial shopping plaza in the Bronx is on "lay-away" at least for now.
NY1 has learned Mayor de Blasio has put the "Baychester Square" application on hold, after the community near Gun Hill Road banded together. More than 70,000 people signed petitions saying the shopping plaza would create more traffic and congestion.
Proponents say the $200 million project would have created at least 40 new stores, 180 units of affordable housing for seniors and lots of open space.
The Mayor's office says they are looking forward to working with developers to refine the project.
