A controversial statue in Central Park was found defaced with graffiti Saturday.
According to the Daily News, the statue of Dr. J. Marion Sims on 103rd St. and 5th Ave. was discovered Saturday with the word "racist" spray-painted on its back.
The sculpture's eyes and neck were also covered in what appeared to be red spray paint.
Park workers later removed the graffiti.
Sims was generally acknowledged as a founder of modern gynecology.
But City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito and other critics have pushed for his statue to be removed, denouncing his use of enslaved African-American women as testing subjects.
The surgeon was said to have experimented on those women without consent or anesthesia.
