NEW YORK - Mayor Bill de Blaiso's morning workout was interrupted Friday by some protesters.

Members of the group CloseRikers confronted de Blasio inside his gym in Park Slope.

They attempted to give the mayor a copy of what's known as the Lippman report, which recommended earlier this year that Rikers Island should be shuttered - sooner than the mayor's proposed 10 year plan.

The group could be heard chanting: "Exercise leadership! Ten years sucks!"

Protesters also gathered outside, demanding for the immediate shutdown of the detention facility.

The mayor has pledged to close Rikers Island in 10 years, but activists say that timeline is far too long.

The mayor paid a visit to Rikers earlier this week to meet with correction officers about improving conditions in the jail.
