Thousands of New Yorkers will get a little more money in their pockets in 2017.
In the city, the minimum wage is set to rise from $9 to $11 per hour today.
For businesses with less than 10 employees, the wage will increase to $10.50. Over 860,000 people in the city will reap the benefits.
The minimum wage for the rest of the state will climb to either $10 or $9.70 an hour.
The wage increase is part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's multi-tier plan to get the minimum wage up to $15 an hour, as well as requiring paid family leave by 2018 for employees of large businesses throughout the city.
The state unveiled an ad campaign earlier this week to remind New Yorkers about the increase.
Minimum wage workers who do not get their pay raise are encouraged to contact the state Department of Labor.
