Police are looking for a man they say robbed an MTA bus driver in Manhattan.

It happened just after 3 a.m. Friday at 119th Street and Second Avenue in East Harlem.

Police say the man boarded a bus without paying the fare.

Authorities say he then showed a knife to the driver, demanded money and told her not to scream.

According to police, the driver complied, but the robber hit her on the forehead with the knife's handle before running away.

The Transport Workers Union is urging the city to boost security on buses.

"The Transport Workers Union and New York City Transit Authority have a collective approach. We both know that unless the NYPD begins to routinely and consistently police buses that the assaults will continue, and it's an outrage," said John Samuelsen, president of Transport Workers Union Local 100. "If it was happening - again, if it was happening to the bureaucrats and politicians that run this city, they'd bring in the National Guard to stop it. And they're doing nothing at this point."

The bus driver was taken to the hospital in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing.
